Wildfire Spread Simulator!

Concept: This simulation models how fire spreads across a landscape based on fuel, wind, and ignition points. It demonstrates concepts like exponential growth (early spread), resource limitation (fuel burnout), and environmental influence (wind).

How to Use:

  1. View Controls: Use mouse or touch gestures (same as before: Orbit, Pan, Zoom) to look around the landscape.
  2. Set Ignition Points: Click or tap on the green ground surface to place initial fire starting points (blue sparks). You need at least one to begin.
  3. Adjust Parameters: Use the sliders below:
    • Spread Rate: Base chance for fire to spread to a nearby location each step.
    • Fuel Density: Represents how much flammable material is available. Higher density allows faster spread and potentially longer burning.
    • Sim Speed: How fast the simulation time progresses.
    • Wind Speed: How strongly the wind affects spread direction.
    • Wind Dir (°): The direction the wind is blowing from (0°=North, 90°=East, etc.). Fire spreads faster downwind.
    • Burnout Time: How many simulated seconds a location stays actively burning (orange/red) before turning into burnt ground (black).
  4. Run: Press 'Ignite!' to start the fire spread simulation.
  5. Control: Use 'Pause' to halt and examine the fire's progress, and 'Reset Sim' to clear the landscape and start over.
